Mahakal Temple In Darjeeling

Mahakal temple is situated on the highest ridge of the town.
The Mahakal temple a top the Observatory Hill is a most revered place for the locals and you will be surprised to find a Hindu priest sharing a common altar with a Buddhist monk.
The temple is greatly venerated and devotees from all sections of the community go up for worship.
You can see hundreds of prayer flags hung all over the shrine and on trees, fluttering in the breeze.
The Observatory Hill is abundantly blessed with exotic flora and fauna and offers great opportunities to bird watches and photographers.

The best time to visit is from April to June and September to December. Average summer temperatures hover between 14°C and 8°C and the winter temperatures fall to between 6°C and 1°C.
