Dhoom Gompa

Located at a distance of 8kms from the hill station, Dhoom Gompa is immensely popular for the splendid statue of the Maitrayaei Buddha. The pristine Monastry has till date preserved very carefully the rare Buddhiat manuscripts.

Batasia Loop

3km from Ghoom and 5km from the city,the railway track, laid in 1879,has taken a sharp Uturn in an astonishing manner. The name of this is Batasia Loop- this unique railway route attracts people. In the centre is a martyr's monument and a beautiful garden. From the Loop the first glimpse of Darjeeling city and charming view of Kanchenjunga is fascinating.

The Mal

The Mall is the commercial street and the lifeline of the hill sation. It appears like a beautiful picture gallery where one gets to see Tibetans selling varieties of knitwear and souvenir shops stuffed with Himalayan artefacts. The road from the Mall leads to Chaurasta which is a square, known for being a perfect place for the tiny tots and the love birds.

Chowrasta

Chowrasta which means crossroad is a spacious area known for being the heart of the hill station, full of a commercial activities.Restuarants, shops and stalls make it a paradise for every shopaholic.Rosaries,brass statues,Gorkha daggers ,tribal ornaments and wollen garments make it a heaven for those who like to splurge on these colourful items.Foreign goods,local handicraft items are in huge demand.

Obeservatory Hill

Locally known as "Makal-Babu-Ko-Thaan", the Obeservatory Hill is situated near Chowrasta just a walking distance from The Mall. It is a revered place for both Hindus and Budhhist. The beauty of this place is that one get to see the snow-covered peaks of the dazzling Kanchenjunga. The Mahakal Temple and the Buddhist Shrine perched on the Observatory Hill are another attraction.

Himalayan Mountaineering Institute

About 2km west of the Mall, on the Jawahar hill is the first mountaineering training centre in India. The Himalayan Institute has changed its named in 1954 to Tenzing Norgey Mountaineering Institute. The Everest Museum of this Institute is very much popular. Along with the techniques of scaling mountains and the equipment needed, this musuem represents a chronological history of Himalayan expeditions since 1857. The collection of the rare species of flora and fauna is also worth mentioning. Apart from the film shows one may enjoy the view of the Kanchenjunga through the telescope, presented to the Maharaja of Nepal by Adolf Hitler.

Tea Gardens

A visit to the green carpeted tea gardens of Darjeeling exuding aromatic breeze and lingering memories of the British period, the real owners should be a top priority on any travel itinerary. The hill station is blessed with 86 lush tea gardens and boasts of being the producer of the best aromatic tea in the world. It is indeed a beautiful experience to watch the women plucking the tea leaves and actual process of the manufacturing of the tea. One of the most popular tea estate is Happy Valley Tea Estate, hardly 3kms from the main town. Sip the world's best flavour, slip into serenity, stroll in the scented tea estate, enjoy the green vistas surrounding it.

Passenger Ropeway

3km from the city, at Rangit valley, the first Indian passenger Ropeway, a cable car has been installed for tourists. Over the tea-gardens ,crossing the Rangit river, with 4 cabins connecting Singhla Bazaar and Darjeeling in 45 minutes.

Toy Trains

The Toy Trains of the Victorian Darjeeling is as beautiful as the hill station itself. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is popularly known as Toy Train - the narrow gauge trains plying from Siliguri to the hills of Darjeeling through narrow winding mountain paths and thick forests. These trains are hauled by steam locomotives though diesel engine has been incorporated recently for delivering mails. In the year 1999, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was accorded the status of a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. These toy trains have played a crucial role in promoting the tourism of the hill station and have witnessed many romantic tales. It is adventures to ride this train and tourists must ride on this funny and exciting Toy Train.
